Portsea Beach House

Portsea Beach House has been refurbished by Australian design Studio Studio Esteta to blend in perfectly with the seaside surroundings of the past and those who loved their Beach homes. The home's location near Portsea Pier with views of Port Phillip Bay makes it a fascinating, modernist beachfront family home.

Portsea House is a two-storey building reminiscent of the modernist era. The client requested that no changes be made to the existing footprint of the house, only minor modifications to the overall spatial arrangement. This meant keeping the existing kitchen, dining room and living area on the ground floor, but also making maximum use of the coastal side.

The client has a deep appreciation for the medieval design period, so the home includes a very special combination of vintage lighting and furniture. One of these key design ICONS is an original semi-pendant that features on both levels of the home.

Custom-made furniture and joinery in the home comfortably combine with renowned craftsmanship, which the Esteta studio team calls a neutral backdrop for the client's travel treasures and antiques. These wood joinery inserts ensure a strong homey feel and demonstrate Esteta studio's absolute attention to detail.

Portsea House's tactile tones are based on the coastal environment and the medieval style and character of the residence. This culminates in slatted wall panels, wood and marble, while establishing a direct relationship with the exterior through the paving of the interior and exterior. The new staircase design clearly reflects the mid-century style and sets the tone of the home from the entrance. When Studio Esteta re-imagined the first floor, they brought the warm and welcoming wood scheme from one floor to the next.
