As a generation of master architects, Tadao Ando left a unique and great vitality for the world. His works and the spirit behind them are eternal and irrepressible.. In 1995, Mr. Ando won the Pritzker Prize, architecture's highesthonor, by donating $100,000 to orphans after the 1995 Kobe earthquake.
Hyogo Prefecture Museum of Art is a purpose-built municipal art museum located in Nada District, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It was designed by Tadao Ando and opened in 2002. The main collection of the museum is foreign and Japanese sculpture, foreign and Japanese prints, Western and Japanese paintings related to Hyogo Prefecture, modern Japanese paintings and contemporary art.
"Compared to a traditional museum, the external exhibition space is designed to be larger and richer," Ando said. The waterfront plaza is the heart of the local community... At the center of the circular square, the stairs and self-supporting walls that slowly move the water level subtly manipulate the sea view, creating a diverse sequence of Spaces. The plaza connects the public Spaces of the museum's foundation platform in a visual and spatial series to create water."
