The Punta Della Dogana museum is located on a triangular plot of land in Venice, Italy. On the site sits a long, low building from the 17th century, crowned by a low tower topped with a decorative green and gold weathervane representing wealth. After the acquisition of the low-rise building, which used to be the Customs house Dogana da Mar, the client turned it over to Japanese architect Tadao Ando, whose design, solution was to combine its edgier minimalism with total respect for the existing building. Apart from additions made over the centuries, the building has largely been restored to its original structure.
