Turbina Studio
We like to consider the language of materials, how each material has an ancient, implicit symbology that is somehow inscribed in our collective unconscious.
Turbina Studio is an artistic practice founded in 2018 by Mateo Fumero and Minerva Capdevila. It is primarily concerned with the perception of time, space and the cosmos: through its exploration of materials and objects, it reflects on life’s transcendental questions, reframing the earthly experience of the unknown. They respect the materials own language, select them for they are implicit symbology and they explore their possibilities while comprehending their nature. Manufactured by themselves in a slow and thorough process.
Turbina is a way of living and understanding things; it links our artistic world with our sentimental relationship. Here, art and life coexist, as work takes on new meaning. Beyond the artistic and personal value of their work, the core elements of Turbina are aesthetics and materiality. Striving to achieve something that is both an object and an artwork, their projects are the fruit of perpetual research, and the result of a slow and meticulous artisanal method, in which material is often the starting point.
“With our work, we want to talk about the language of materials and contribute to the understanding that each material has its own implicit, ancient symbology, somehow inscribed in our collective unconscious,” they explain. From modular pieces inspired by litholatry (the worship of stones) to kinetic sculptures, and chunky, monolith-like bookends, Turbina each collection inspires reflection while seducing with its texture and physicality.
