Morph is located in the downtown area of Nanshan District of Shenzhen, occupying a corner of the whole building. It is a comprehensive space with a construction area of 1000 square meters. The landscape is above the municipal park. MORPH means transformation and evolution in Chinese. The owner hopes to establish a new social space full of possibilities in the local area, and introduce and host different cultural, artistic and musical activities, bringing new vitality to the city.

 In the designer's understanding, evolution represents progress and change. By reflecting on the background of shenzhen as a new city, it is hoped that some traditional Chinese local materials and elements can be introduced into the collision with modern structural forms, and the old elements gradually forgotten by contemporary people can be integrated into the international modern design and aesthetic standards in a new way, thus presenting the "evolution" of design in the real sense. The idea was to facilitate this collision through an interior landscape full of material variations and contrasts and the distribution of the multifunctional areas faced.

As the main material for the walls and ceiling, the warm sandy natural cave stone gives a subtle texture to the simple and warm volume, which, with the tint of gold reflected from the gold leaf hole and the brass connectors, presents a modern and timeless look that contrasts visually with the commercial buildings nearby. Light and heavy, discreet, transparent and airtight -- the whole project seems to be filled with similar elements of contrast.

Inspired by the traditional colours of the Forbidden City, the colours are extreme and extremely saturated: bright red, clear blue, matte black, bright yellow and gold; It is also the color of the so-called five elements. Such Chinese colors are reorganized, interpreted and transformed in a new and modern way in space, which is combined with the structure to form a frames of a highly saturated image. In terms of material texture, the designer adopts a variety of modern materials combined with materials unique to China. Like black walls are made from the Forbidden City ground material - bric (used in floor tile, within the Forbidden City palace because value and gold as the so-called "bric"), through modern technology circulation restructuring of a kind of new environmental protection material, not only retained the material properties of this material, but also to forty thousand per square metre cost greatly reduced. According to research analysis, the brics, a combination of the wisdom of Chinese craftsmen, will disappear in 20 years due to the lack of raw materials.

The material of the blue arc door is made of silk cloth, a traditional Chinese craft, which is hand-dyed by craftsmen. The golden hole on the ceiling of the first floor subtly connects the area of the first and second floors. Through precise structural calculation, the area of the second floor is increased across the original space with a height of 7 meters, and all functional areas are connected by an overall circular and flexible moving line. The structural language is matched with the limited and extreme tonal materials -- the space keeps the balance and unity of the overall picture while expanding. Another radical measure is to insert in the original geometric space another slightly misaligned sloping arc wall full-height structure, connecting, separating and limiting the space, while adding the marking and brightness of the space. The outer corridor and the activity place of black stone wall are separated by a double height structural language, the geometrical aesthetic feeling that material and structure collide gives, show absolutely here. Looking up from the first floor, it increases the permeability of the space, connecting the first and second floors as one in a subtle way, while breaking the sense of oppression and limitation of the height of the first floor.

In addition, MORPH has three identities: a bar, an event venue, and a convertible space; Effectively assume the "human-city interaction" in the cultural context. The functional area is organized around a 7-meter-high activity space in the center of the space -- a venue that can accommodate 100 people, theater-level audio, and space devices that change from time to time to match various activity forms, giving local people a choice of new social places.

The two sides of the activity space are designed with flexible rotating doors to meet the needs of different activities and exhibitions. When closed, the inner field becomes an independent and pure space. When opened, the inner field is connected with the outer corridor area, which enriches the interaction and layering sense of the whole space. People and performers can move through it, forming an interesting interaction and scene. The continuity of the space from the outer gallery and the revolving open doors give the space the possibility and flexibility to hold different activities. Multiple moving doors act like a heart that breathes and expands, giving the same space different levels and transformations, as in the name MORPH here.
The bar, Lounge, VIP room, wine r & D kitchen and other functional areas are distributed around the activity space, forming an interesting circular moving line, which can be combined and divided according to different activity needs. In the deep outer corridor area of the second floor, the indigo velvet booth combined with the repetitive structure of the ceiling makes the space full of architectural sense and geometric aesthetic feeling. The pink geometry of the stairwell adds a lot of livience and livience to such a calm and structural-strong atmosphere. The lens inside lavatory "lens inside lens", the way that defines the mirror afresh through the space reveals means, with interleaving visual effect highlight the echo relation that gives a person and mirror delicately.

In the face of the oblivion and disappearance of Traditional Chinese materials, Wanshe-based works provide exploration and solutions - to renovate people's impression on the use of traditional materials through its own design techniques, and to redefine the application of traditional materials in modern society and design; By combining the unique Chinese materials with modern technical materials and design, it breaks through people's restrictions on the use of traditional materials and continues the use of traditional materials in another way: "re-design with old material". Surrounded by prosperous night scenery, this place shows its expectation and hope for this city in another attitude. Like MORPH's own name, MORPH evolves and changes, and faces different challenges with infinite possibilities.
