Dancer of Time
Architecture, as the highest art, achieves the Platonic sublime, the laws of mathematics, the philosophical ideas, and the sense of harmony generated by a moving harmony. This is the purpose of architecture. -- Le Corbusier
Located in Vanke Design Commune, Shenzhen, the project is dedicated by the Shenzhen Yige design team. In the process of exploring the space’s meaning, it is hoped that time perception will be implanted. Through the reasoning of spatial structure, the experience that everything under heaven is born in existence and existence is born in nothing will be constructed, stimulating human thinking about natural cosmic changes and the reincarnation of all things in life.
The name "nothing" is the beginning of heaven and earth. The name "something" is the mother of all things. It creates a sense of time by remembering the history of its environment, and then contrasts this exclusive memory with its mission in the contemporary world, triggering people to shift their understanding of space from physical space to perceptual space. The facade of the building is made of concrete walls, which gives the exhibition hall a unique trace of time and age and extends the reflection on the interior of the building. The natural texture of marble gives the whole building a simple and natural appearance as a preface to the whole design theme. Through the metaphorical approach, the theme of the intertwined relationship between materials, time, and space is recapitulated.
Exploring time and space, perceiving emotions
Though time cannot be perceived directly, it can be presented indirectly through the changes in everything. In the 180 square meters of space, the design team has interpreted it deeply, explored the fusion of time and space, and maintained an improbable relationship with nature. We uphold the aesthetics and philosophy of the space, think in a holistic strategy from structure building to interior creation, build a unique brand story of "one element, one thing, one thing" with a simple design language, and constantly interpret multiple scenes and stories in the space where everything can be carried.
Time has recorded every inch of the corner in the process of flowing, such as a tea, a table, and chairs. What comes into view is the reception space that has been carefully arranged. Returning to simplicity is the beginning of feeling real. These seemingly simple items including chairs, coffee table, green plants, and artworks are carefully designed by the designer. Different materials express their respective stories of passing. The years and sedimentary rocks tell each other the memories of the past.
Space is not a dichotomous world, but should be regarded as a whole, in which there are independent parts with object volume. There are also "empty" existences like water, and people and things become the best lead. Everything flows. Minimalism is a counterpoint to the Chinese philosophy of Wu Wei, where nothing is another dimension of something, and something is born out of nothing, easy and difficult, short and long, high and low. White space is also a space for contemplation. When life is fixed, it gives a new continuity to space.
Light has a mysterious power for the space, which gives the space connotation. The items are furnished in the form of near horizontal display, visually pulling the comfort level full, and responding to the peace again. Following the change of time, the space also shows a subtle image, introducing outdoor light through the gap, and shaping the natural beauty and rhythm of light and shadow in the space. The white corner table is polished while retaining its original form, echoing the dark bench. The light and shadow create a touch of quietness between the color, light, and darkness of the object, and its concealment. The single chair placed in the space is made of a combination of wood, leather, and metal. These materials full of texture make the final form warm, gorgeous, and slim while retaining their respective memory properties.
Dialogue with nature, touching life
Light and shadow are present in the architectural space, highlighting the details of the space, rendering the rhythm of the space in a more metaphorical and advanced way, and presenting everything in nothing between light and dark. With light there is color. Without light, there is no color.
The sense of life of the greenery directly maps the slow flow of time in the space. To simplify the movement line to the maximum, the space is connected to the upper and lower floors and the first-floor office space through a whole time tunnel. Dialogue with nature is a silent and invisible link. The ceiling at the entrance of the second floor shows the reflection of the pool through the installation, forming a unique landscape. The process of selecting stone is also the establishment of human and natural perception of the interaction. The carefully selected stone should be taken as a frame design brand, which can experience the wash of the years, but still stands tall.
Each ripple in the pool presents a different form at any time when time passes, just like a stage play that never ends. An antique stone lion from the Qing Dynasty is deliberately placed in the pool to let the past, present and future dialogue together, echoing the designer's thinking about space and time. We hope to express warm and natural mood. Space does not exist through itself but through places, creating disorder in different spaces, full of expectation and unknown in the disorder, with a natural flow of exploration in the space.
The designer wants every wall, every piece of furniture, and every beam of light to grow naturally, creating a distinctive and natural sense of order in the open space.
Light and shadow change, perceiving the present moment
At different moments of the day, light and shadow act out different spatial moods in the interior, mobilizing spatial moods into human situational experiences, leaving space for reflection, and perpetuating the sense of life in a fixed form again.
The desk made of acrylic resin and tree tumor adds a little transparency and ensures a sense of volume. The tree tumor on the desk is carefully selected and patiently polished, and the process from the budding to the aging of life is witnessed here, provoking people to think about time and life. The materials of the past and modern collide with each other and merge into one, making the stage of everything and the dojo of life by the interplay of time and space.
We live in a structured space surrounded by materials. Only the white space and tranquility can give the baptism of body and mind. There is an interaction between space and heart. Pleasure comes from comfort, and comfort comes from details. Perceiving the present can trigger the experience of mind flow. What is space and time? What is the meaning of our existence in the overlap of past and future? Through the collision of materials, people trigger all explorations.
The tea room is a space that the designer likes most. This seemingly simple but not simple space is most popular. The combination of rustic original wood and acrylics creates a sense of floating, which is visually rich and natural. The combination of ancient and new is achieved, carrying the definition of space.
Everything in heaven and earth is born from something. Something is born from nothing, so is time and space. We need to stop for a while, to savor, to perceive the past, present, and future of life!
