A duplex apartment in mumbai, India, designed by Ashiesh Shah for her client Shreyasi Goenka. The client is a collector. She started collecting works by artists when she was 20 years old. By the time she was 30, she had owned more than 40 works, mostly paintings. Art is the only thing she spends a lot of money on.
Ashiesh Shah designed the house to satisfy Shreyasi Goenka's request for a musea-level home. Ashiesh Shah took it as a sign of her commitment to collecting as a practice. The dining table is a malachite stone slab mounted on a base sourced from Viya Home; around it are Knoll ‘Platner’ chairs. Above the table hang architectural lights by Classic Luminaires, while the console behind the table was designed by Shah using leftover material from the construction process.
All the while, Ashiesh Shah was certain he wanted the apartment’s design to dialogue with the neighbouring art deco buildings, which explains the use of soft-edged curves and elegant retro fittings that also engage withShreyasi Goenka’s own fixation with stone and marble.
