In 2019, Domenic Degner and Falko Landenberger embarked on their first collaborative experiment: the renovation of their shared apartment. This project quickly evolved into a personal endeavor during the pandemic, as they lived in the adjacent 19-square-meter studio apartment, which is now available for guests.
Situated in Berlin Mitte ( Wedding ), the apartment underwent a complete transformation with the vision of giving it the ambiance of a bungalow. To achieve this, all the doors were repositioned and redesigned as nearly ceiling-high double doors. The bathroom, initially ina raw and unfinished state, was dismantled and reconfigured, resulting in an expanded reception area in front of it and a separate toilet.
The kitchen was also relocated to create visual sightlines, allowing for seamless interaction while cooking. Every detail was meticulously planned and executed, including the installation of a completely level, threshold-free floor. Oak planks were laid in the bedroom and living area, while natural German stone was used in all other areas where guests are encouraged to keep their shoes on—a playful departure from typical German customs.
The couple took on much of the work themselves, from plastering the entire apartment to installing the bathroom and kitchen. This hands-on collaboration ultimately led to the founding of their design studio, 'DEGLAN,' and deepened their shared passion for craftsmanship.
