At Home Studios, the design team is known for its meticulous and hospitality-first approach to interior design, where each project is viewed as a narrative that blends storytelling, craftsmanship and context. The studio's design philosophy emphasizes the use of natural materials, custom details, and elements with personality, with the goal of creating spaces that are lived-in, timeless, and unique, while incorporating modern and vintage elements to create a feeling of warmth, comfort, and intrigue.
In designing Charlie Fox, a three-story high-end marijuana dispensary in the heart of Times Square, Home Studios took a different approach than traditional retail spaces. In this regard, Charlie Fox is their first retail project, which presented them with an exciting challenge.
When considering the user experience during the early conceptualization phase, Home Studios knew that the Charlie Fox dispensary, more than just a place of commerce, should function in a hospitality-oriented environment that invites connection, exploration, and personalized experiences. Ultimately, the design of “Charlie Fox” draws on design principles typical of restaurants and boutique hotels to create a warm, luxurious atmosphere rather than a purely transactional environment.
The studio's key design goal was to emphasize personalized service, quality products and an attentive customer experience through strategic and inspiring spatial details. The overall layout aims to create a multifaceted retail experience that promotes connection, communication and flexibility, encouraging customers to explore and engage with the products, thus providing a fluid, comfortable and infectious environment.
The concept of duality is a core feature of Charlie Fox and the design team wanted to express this through their design. They blended “masculine” and “feminine” elements throughout the interiors, balancing contrasting energies - a nod to the duality of nature and the cannabis plant itself. The juxtaposition of masculine and feminine, traditional and modern, creates unexpected moments that entice guests to linger and explore more. The final goal is to achieve a harmonious duality that feels both welcoming and striking.
