Studio Jorge Bibiloni has redecorated the Son Julia boutique hotel in a 15th-century mansion on the Spanish island of Mallorca. This is the studio's second collaboration with the Son Julia hotel, focusing on retooling 29 guest rooms and eight suites.
Jorge Bibiloni's design team used the building's original sandstone arch as an aesthetic and practical feature, separating the bathroom from the sleep. The balcony Windows bring plenty of natural light to the interior, and the mirrors behind the bathroom enlarge the sense of space, creating a light-using game that adds a modern touch to the hotel's rural environment.
Natural materials such as timber and stone give continuity with the rest of the hotel, with a focus on warm and subtle tones that add to the overall sense of hospitality. Beyond the original structure, every element of the interior, including headboards, sinks and tables were all made to measure by the designers.
Contemporary detailing such as matte black tapware and built-in textured concrete furniture that appears to emerge seamlessly from the walls and floors add further contrast to the centuries-old sandstone arches.Jorge Bibiloni's studio created layers of detail throughout the building, without overcomplicating or weakening the striking skeleton of the original hotel building.
