Samuel Amoia

Soho Apartment

New York designer Samuel Amoia combines elements of Italian modernism and French art deco in a multicoloured interior designed for young businessmen. This sunny apartment in New York's soho district is owned by an American entrepreneur who has spent most of his life on the west coast. The client asked designer Samuel Amoia to create a vibrant and dynamic interior that would make his trip to New York unforgettable. Looking for inspiration,Amoia turned to one of the most interesting pages in design history, Italian modernism and French art deco.

The apartment’s showpiece is a towering onyx fireplace inspired by Gio Ponti’s iconic F.A.33 mirror from the 1930s, which curves distinctively along its edges. The fireplace is a work of art and really makes a statement. To complement its silhouette, Amoia placed curvaceous objects throughout the living room, including a Pierre Agustin Rose sofa with overstretched round lines and two Jindřich Halabala armchairs framed by ribbons of wood. Massive windows with views of SoHo’s industrial rooftops add some sharp angles to the mellifluous picture.

The work of another famous designer of the 20th century - Jean-Michel Franck - served as an inspiration for the design of the media room. The walls in it look like bronze: their surface resembles the foundations of Сroisillon fixtures of the French art deco master. In fact, they are covered with textured plaster made specifically for this project by artist Benjamin Lai.The warm colors of the wall decoration are continued with a caramel-colored leather sofa, low dark-wood cabinets and a coffee-colored carpet. The proportions of the room are emphasized by dark red metal “gears” - a wall sculpture of Red Bloodbath by Luc Todd.
