This is the first studio of Cheng Sen, the principal designer of Dong Ji.
Before, I worked from home, undisturbed in my own room, and was used to a very quiet and free working environment. So, I didn't consider an office building when choosing a location, and instead picked a park in Changzhou. The first time I saw the site, I was attracted by its natural light. The warm yellow light on the walls was very cozy, and the nearly 5-meter high ceiling gave a great sense of space. I decided on the spot after seeing it during the day and night.
For the first time, I was the client, so everything was designed according to my preferences. I believe that working by the window is the ideal situation because you can experience the sound of the wind and rain, and the sunlight constantly changes patterns to greet you. A relaxed and comfortable environment makes for better design work. It seems that designers always want larger desks, so I made myself a big workstation. I placed two plants in the studio, which immediately livened up the space. Because of the high ceiling, I bought a large fishtail palm, which is a tropical plant that really relaxes people and gives a vacation-like atmosphere.
The entire space is divided using birch plywood cabinets, and the natural grain of the birch is truly beautiful. The walls are coated with a very light earth-toned micro-cement, which is an incredibly calming color. The reception area in the middle is enclosed by sofas, and the layout is very similar to the living room of my home. Our lights, chairs, and curtains are all made from cotton, linen, and paper materials, which are natural and make the space feel truly free and quiet.
