Rosie Li
I enjoy studying organic forms and patterns, then distilling these elements down to basic geometry – it’s my way of quantifying our world.
Rosie Li is a Chinese-American artist and designer of sculptural lighting and objects, currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Graduating from Rhode Island School of Design in 2011. Informed by developing designs for mass production, Li opened her atelier in 2015 to focus on iterative lighting series and private commissions. Her works challenge visual perception and blur the lines between product and sculpture.
Founded in New York, Rosie Li Studio is a design studio and boutique lighting manufacturer formed by designer Rosie Li and engineer Philip Watkins. The studio forgoes traditional lamp design for building systems driven by science and mathematics, constructing fixtures with natural and pared-down forms. Rosie Li aesthetic blends simple, geometric forms with organic elements to create works that convey growth and movement – qualities intrinsic to our human experience.
Rosie Li practice draws inspiration from the natural world, as she interested in the way things bloom, grow and mature. Expressed through simple geometric modules, Rosie Li work seeks to quantify natural phenomena by combining and recombining repeated organic forms. She ultimate goal is to elevate art and design to the role that science and technology currently occupy in our lives. Everyone should live with beauty and art, and spend less time using devices and smartphones.
