Sahel Al Hiyari

In order to respond to the environment and design requirements, architecture must have a visceral, original connection to the space.

Sahel Al Hiyari is an architect and painter from Jordan who has exhibited his art in Jordan, Lebanon and Italy. He holds a BACHELOR's degree in architecture and Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master's degree in Urban Design architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He founded his eponymous firm, Sahel Al Hiyari Architects, which aims to create excellence in architecture.

Sahel Al Hiyari, favourite pupil of Alvaro Siza, believes that in order to respond to the environment and design requirements, architecture must have a visceral, original connection to the space. Starting from human beings, "how will we live together with architecture" has become the basic motif of architects. It is often people and their actions that give life to architecture, and the process is alive.

As a competent builder, we should have a sense of foresight, make good plans for the future in advance, and fundamentally solve the problems that may be encountered, which greatly tests the architect's processing capacity and adapt to the actual situation. Since ancient times, this architectural form with problem-solving is the core, which  is also suitable for future market demand.

Sahel Al Hiyari believes that all the work of architects is the result of interlinked interests and thought trajectories, even contradictions and inconsistencies. Seeing a work as a whole was problematic, and he believed that continuity could emerge through different areas of interest. As Scarpa indulges in the endless exploration of the form of "fragmentary architecture", a detail or element cannot be integrated, but a whole becomes unexpected and surprising because of many fragments. Architecture can be fragmentary, disembodied and poetic.

The architecture though seemingly quite severe and angular in expression, maintains a more delicate or softer quality that is achieved by the hand-sanded surface of the concrete.

The project endeavors to create a dialogue between topography and architecture by its formal and spatial response to the sloping landscape.
