Germany 2021-09-30

Peter Haimerl is a well-known Architect in Germany. He was born in Bavaria, Germany in 1961. He graduated from the Applied Technical University of Munich in 1987. Peter Haimerl's designs are often described as stubborn, full of personality, contradictory or ambiguous. The uniqueness of the project stems from an extreme attachment to the place, which is considered in a consistent and very modern way.

Yinji:What do you think of architecture?
Peter Haimerl:Architecture is the space that is created when nature is refined.Architecture transforms functional spaces into cultural spaces.

Yinji: How do you define your own design style?
Peter Haimerl:I try to create spaces that transform, expand, culminate and interpret the environment. I am very creative in finding my means.

Yinji:How does architecture rejuvenate the countryside? What kind of social functions do you think architects should undertake?
Peter Haimerl:The main task of architecture is to establish culture and philosophical thinking - also in the countryside. Infrastructure and built spaces must be more than functional units: A holistic „landscape-architecture“ must be created.

Yinji:Do you have a preference for choosing materials? How do you see the relationship between material and space?
Peter Haimerl:I don't really have a preference for a material. I often use concrete in my buildings in the Bavarian Forest because its rough yet poetic appearance suits this area.

Yinji:Your favourite design masters and philosophers, what inspirations did they bring to you?
Peter Haimerl:Peter Eisenmann, Humberto R. Maturana - both have created real worlds through new worlds of thought that exist beyond human creation "as virtual living beings". My own thinking spaces also fit into these new worlds.

Yinji: What inspired you to establish “HAUS.PATEN Bayerwald”? What do you think its mission is?
Peter Haimerl:I come from the Bavarian Forest and have seen how, along with the historical architecture, its understanding of quality has also disappeared. With HAUS.PATEN Bayerwald, I try to bring back something of this time, the skills and the joie de vivre for myself and others.
