Yinjispace:Could you first introduce the design concept?
ND:The design concept of my office, is to create Comforting Homes and Places. We focus on calm spaces, with a high end finishing. By using natural and healthy materials, as wood, lime, concrete, natural linnen and fabrics, beautiful natural stones, we create a design concept that is always in harmony and balance. Each project is completely made to measure...And executed by arts and craftsman. I think that calm spaces, well organized, create a better life for his inhabitants.
Yinjispace:What are your favorite design masters?
ND:My design masters are Charlotte Perriand, Mies Van de Rohe, Carlo Scarpa, Richard Neutra, Bijoy Jain, Vincenzo de Cotiis.
Yinjispace:How do you usually start a design? Do you start from sections, plans or anything else? What do you think is the most important factor of design?
ND:Before we start a new project, we need to known very well the client... we take time to exchanges ideas about their lives, their needs....We analyse their wishlist... and we visit the house, the place or the project. We start with making a moodboard, to create a story... about their new home.. we create plans, drawings and some visuals ( 3d plans )...We put materials together to create immediately the right feeling...The most important factor for good design, is to listen well to the needs of your client. To well analyze and give them solutions that are more beautiful then they could imagine... to create a story that fits them... Like a jacket...
Yinjispace:What do you do on a daily basis that keeps your design thinking up to date?
ND:I m like a sponge... each time when i travel, read or visit an exhibition... i take all the images with me in my minds... For when i need it during my creative process . I found inspiration every where....
Yinjispace:In this highly competitive and saturated design field, do you have any suggestion for the growth of young architects?
ND:Work hard, look around you, live profoundly and listen a lot to your clients... you learn always in each situation... never be satisfied and looking always further for a better solution. Visit many exhibitions, read books and learn about nature, and old architecture... travel to understand different cultures... Think always in terms of beauty and positivity... Follow your own path.
Yinjispace:Has the COVID-19 affected you? How did you deal with it?
ND:Covid 19 didn t affected me... it gave me the opportunity to stand still about my work and my live... to listen more to my own needs, and gave me the time to work from home and to do finally what i like the most.... drawing... being creative... I designed a new furniture collecting, named Nomad... with beautiful library desk, daybed, a rectangular and round table, and sofas... we will present the collection this summer. All my team members worked from home, and we had constantly contact by zoom meeting, Face time calls with clients and suppliers...
