The work of Tania Handelsmann and Gillian Khaw is an ode to balance and refinement. Handelsmann & Khaw Australia believes in an elegant, well-designed environment that reflects the diverse personality of its clients and is respected for its growing portfolio of work. Hunters Hill House, their completed project, is located in an upscale, tree-lined suburb just a short drive from downtown Sydney.
In this project, the exploration of form and the contrast of texture brought a sense of comfort to the new home in a minimalist style. Using a redundant aesthetic that evokes a complex feel (rather than a cold finish), plenty of natural light dissolves the house's industrial edges and raw materials, and simple tones work their magic. The impressive angular patterned marble and sculptural lighting fixtures also evoke a timeless element.
It is this recurring harmony between tradition and modernity that weaves past and present inspirations together. We can't ignore the simple kitchen and how it features luxurious Calacatta Paonazzetto marble, amid warm honey and tan texture. It feels smooth, but its colors create warmth. Like other materials used throughout the house, Handelsmann & Khaw deftly USES subtle, tactile luxury that helps soften the house's avant-garde architectural style. Their goal was to create a subtle luxury that, like anything that touches elements of the country, has a quaint feel.
