Vestibule
We went through a number of designs for the top of the vestibule, but in the end we chose the most uninspiring arch. Perhaps it is because here it is just a meaningless semi-circle, and when we need to feel the high and wide enough, uniform light without boundaries, the arch appears, and one is transported into a peaceful void. The surrounding walls, the texture of terra cotta firmly and firmly support our bodies, the warm and simple wooden reception area cordially greets us, the thick benches send out invitations, the thick doors are like caves for us to stay and explore, and the lights at our feet indicate our progress.
The Door
The door is open, and the unusual thickness allows one to hide inside and move forward and forward. The world behind the glass is always fascinating, but the glass is added with a thick black frame, the screws are so tight, the door handle is placed in the door frame, and the trance between the inside and outside, as if facing a transparent mirror, turning back and facing another deeper door, time and space are twisted and forked on the way, and the journey is a variety of possibilities.
Entering this public space, various handles may be the only building components that the skin can touch, and the touch brings us into the phenomenon world of different emotions. The sleek, spherical wooden handles are warm and light, as intimate as the solid wood front desk drawer table. Thick blocky wooden handles are used on the lightweight locker doors, while the heavy glass doors are filled with tiny tubular stainless steel handles. The impression of warmth and lightness is completely misplaced with the actual tactile experience, which reminds me of Siza's humorous face with a thin cigarette in his mouth whenever I hold those tiny locks to open the heavy doors in Siza's buildings.
Space
Because of its "empty" space has the use value, goods can be placed, people can live. And space really begins to exist because of "space".
When you walk in the bright, tall and wide white exhibition hall, the complex ceiling and the light from the side continue to stretch far away, but they are blocked by the high wall, and the body is also blocked by the wooden platform, just like the river is blocked by the stone and the waves, the guessing of the overall picture of the space is increasingly fierce, the wall collage pattern, the distant irregular railings indicate the direction of travel.
Warm wooden steps lead the way into a dark, narrow box where the top of the wall is wrapped in small handmade bricks with a dull and rough surface. The neat and tight textured paving accentuates the sense of closure and contrasts sharply with the open and uniform white space outside. Following the lowered wall on one side, the ground also lowers to the exit on the middle level, and rises again to the height of the floor in the inner space. This two-way ramp ensures the barrier-free access of the entire exhibition hall to meet the functional needs of the shelves to follow the guide and the customers. It is also this dark and closed "space" as a channel that enhances our understanding of "emptiness". Because of the rich transformation of physical experience, the feeling of space is more intense and clear, and the space exists from this, and the concrete life world of people can be revealed.
