Studio Akademie was founded in 2022 by Emre Uzun and Selina Sisik with the mission of creating a unique visual language through the creation of objects and spaces, both temporary and permanent. The focus of Studio Akademie is to create visually stunning pieces that not only catch the eye but also engage the senses. They straddle the line between contemporary art and design by embracing a flexible aesthetic, allowing them to push beyond the limits of traditional design.
Almost Mirror Collection is a three piece table-top-objects that are the end product of experiments on the subject of how to manipulate a sheet of stainless steel,by using different bending techniques. As the surface is quite responsive to its surroundings, every manipulation technique results in different outcomes as reflections, overall form and utility.Every piece is unique, limited and handformed in Istanbul.
Formed by hand with the help of a wooden mold and dots on the surface, Fold Table Light both illuminates from within and through the reflections. As the self appointed purpose was to create a lighting element with a unique form, Fold Table Light is the outcome of experimentation on the subject, that consists of constructing physical models. It is a statement piece with a timeless appearance.
Pope Vase responds to its surroundings by distorting reflections in a vertical manner. Following the similar playful forms as the whole collection, it can be crowned with flowers of your choice or simply exist as a sculptural element. Hand-formed by local artisans in Istanbul, Pope Vase represents a contrast between hard material and soft forms as a statement. The name comes from its similarity to a pope hat as its form, which is a great example of the playful tone of Akademie.
Almost Mirror is the closest object to a mirror in the collection just as a funhouse-mirror that swings and altars the reflections in a delusional manner.Since using raw materials and conducting formal studies was the primal objective of this collection; Almost Mirror introduces a dynamic interpretation to the idea of a conventional mirror with the help of the surface intervention and swinging notion.
