The purity of the environment and the power of the elements inspired the architectural movement, defined by solid materials, the amplification of nature and the beauty that can be found in juxtaposition. Tanner Architects used these qualities to design The Point, which embraces both The physical and emotional experience of The site.

The Arm Peninsula, south of Hobart, is known for its fascinating natural cohesion. The land is covered with low vegetation that almost looks like a wilderness. However, in the waters of Frederick Henry Bay, tidal changes form the famous surf area on the right. A few years ago, when the peninsula was divided into large plots of land, a family of five from Sydney recognised and seized the opportunity to create a grade II listed residence that would become a unique gathering place.

The Point has become a place for family reunions, as both parents and their children enjoy surfing. The house is a rugged structure, with the south facade seemingly hovering over the grassland and rocky beach. Stuart Tanner, director of Tanner Architects, describes the "tension between the ground and the building" as "the interplay between the landscape and the artificial". There is a readability between the two, an "emphasis on the landscape" that creates a deep sense of gravity, depicting the house's low and enormous volume, weight, balanced by its sense of suspension.

The interaction between the landscape and the built environment allows the house to be fully integrated into the surrounding land and sea view, and during the day they are fully integrated, minimizing the overall impact of the house on the environment. At night, the building is designed with low lighting to avoid artificial sensory overflow and focus on the beauty of the starry sky above.
