Kennedy Nolan

Kennedy Nolan is an Melbourne-based interior design firm founded in 1999 by Rachel Nolan and Patrick Kennedy to produce buildings that are highly responsive to their environment and seek to form a strong relationship with the landscape.

Rachel Nolan has a wealth of expertise in creating an architectural environment that inspires and responds to the environment, the environment and the environment. Rachel is fascinated by both materials and immateriality, both conceptually and practically, and is committed to creating a lasting place to support a good life.

Patrick Kennedy is a member of the Continuing Education Committee of the Institute of Architects. He is very interested in design details, materiality, form arousal and contemporary architectural creation in the context of historical style. Kennedy Nolan offers highly responsive design, is sensitive to its environment, and meets brief requirements through a sustainable design program.

Kennedy Nolan's design stems from modernist optimism, rationality, utilitarianism, technological empowerment, and the design and arrangement of space to support and strengthen the positive views of relationships, which can increase the enthusiasm and enthusiasm for life.

    Design Works

    • Secret Garden House

      True to its name, the ‘Secret Garden House’ by Kennedy Nolan invites curiosity, wonder and an imperceptible sense of having been there all along. The ‘pavilion’, hidden beyond a decorative gate, is embedded in the garden, rather than simply being placed upon it. 
    • Matthews House

      Arresting Verde Alpi Green marble tiles are spilled from the statement wall to the kitchen counter to the island bench, contrasted by provincial white cabinetry and raw Classico Travertine flooring.
    • Always House

      Located in the seaside town of Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula, the brief required an unmediated experience of the spectacular coastal landscape, while retaining the peace and calm of a refuge.

      Elsternwick House conjures a visually engaging and enriching journey through an unexpected response to heritage, infused with character.
    • Milkbar House

      Kennedy Nolan takes a beloved narrative approach, redecorating the house with a lovely transitional experience that evokes an inner rose-tinted nostalgia.

    • Laminex 2

      Kennedy Nolan combines rich colours and bold gestures with the soft touch and visual tenderness of Laminex's absolute matte laminates.
    • St Kevin's Primary School

      Kennedy Nolan was commissioned to design the St Kevin School project, which ADAPTS and extends existing learning Spaces and creates a 'village' school structure.
    • The Expansive Kitchen
